History
The tale begins in the June of 1985. D.T. Pennington was birthed in a hospital in Arlington, Texas – a part of the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area that boasts almost no cultural or historical significance.
At the age of eight, his family moved to Midland, Texas where he was prone to frequent sandstorms, insufferable heat and occasional county fairs.
Salvation came when his family once again pulled up stakes and settled in Colorado. Temporarily in Aurora, before making a more permanent settlement in Arvada – both suburbs of Denver – at the age of 10. D.T. received schooling at Warder Elementary, Moore Middle, and finally Pomona High school. Upon graduation, he spent the next four years schooling at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado while spending the summers between Arvada, Denver, various rural mountain towns and finally the John Wayne landscapes of New Mexico. D.T. finished his degrees in English Language and Literature, Writing and Applied Linguistics in May of 2007. Currently, he resides in Denver.
The Scouting Years
In the second grade D.T. was recruited into his first Cub Scout Pack which met in the gymnasium of Starrett Elementary. His uniform was composed of swaths of bright orange cotton and blue denim. Beyond the classroom, it was his first sense of community.
D.T. worked the next decade through various rankings, packs, troops and leadership positions – all of which culminated to the earning of the Eagle Scout honor in May of 2002. D.T. used his prestige in the program to secure summer employment at a variety of summer camps. For five consecutive summers between 1998 and 2003, D.T. played a key role in scouting’s Big Horn Leadership Training Course for the Denver Area Council.
During the summer breaks in his college years, D.T. applied his scouting skills to the more high-adventure based camps that the scouting program featured. In 2004 he applied his marksmanship to running the shooting sports program at Magness Adventure Camp at Peaceful Valley. In 2005 D.T. took to the trails as a Ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. A year later D.T. found himself at a new camp, repairing mountain bikes and leading grueling 3 a.m. hikes at Camp Alexander at the far end of 11 Mile Canyon near Lake George, CO.
The Development of a Writer
During his sophomore year of high school D.T. failed a writing assignment administered by his English teacher for not adhering to the standard five-paragraph-essay format that all students at the time were taught to write by. The topic – a general analysis of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet – was better interpreted as “the romantic absurdities of literary fiction.” While his teacher still felt it was a solid, humorous piece of writing, the failing grade still stood due to his failure to adhere to the normal standards. (It is also suggested that this early, bitter outlook on intimate relationships that would contribute to the dozens of obscure and awkward romantic situations he would experience later in life.)
So D.T. was directed to the newspaper department, where he contributed a few guest pieces to the amateur publication while undergoing his own writing at home. In college, immersed in creative writing courses of every genre he nursed his need for fiction and storytelling. He joined up with the UNC Mirror as a copy editor and an occasional Arts & Entertainment correspondent – writing about local theater productions, local bands, and campus performances.
This style of writing carried over to a few online and print publications after graduation, including Crunkbox Media and The Colorado Music Buzz.
To date, D.T. has completed two novels – one ghostwritten and the other slightly autobiographical (as most first novels are). He is currently working on his third work of fiction and trying his hand out writing for the screen and the stage.
A Current Snapshot

He enjoys spending time writing short stories and contributing copy to a variety of web projects and spending time with his lovely girlfriend, Carly. When he isn’t writing, he is loving movies and television programs. He’ll talk movies with you all day long, if you want. The same goes for classic Rock N Roll. His free time is spent getting progressively better at taking a photograph.
