“This year, I hired Dave to edit my first two books and couldn’t have been more pleased with the results. One of the publishers even came back and said, “Wow – this is the cleanest manuscript we’ve seen in ages!” Dave’s great not only with general copyediting but also with helping you identify where things aren’t working and helping you elevate your writing beyond the cliché. He’s fast, accurate, and yes – I’ll be hiring him again.”

I began Not Quite Hippie in the Spring of 2011 as a way to document and present my garden. It quickly turned into a lesson on sustainability. Even when things aren’t growing I show my audience that anyone can be a earth-loving, community-cultivating, hippie without having to don fringe and Birkenstocks. In it’s short history I have entertained posts on gardening, sustainable projects in Denver, topics on green technology, healthy eating, and responsible consumerism – all to thousands of visitors each month.
Contributing Editor
When we purchased our first home, the realtor – who is a good friend of ours – confessed “I will tell you everything you can possibly want to know about the house, and then some. But when it comes to the neighborhood, that’s entirely up to you.” When buying or moving, a lot of people have anxieties about the neighborhood: crime? Schools? Is the area on its way up or the way down? Is there a decent cup of coffee around here? 8Z looked to change all of that by developing an excellent content base to portray neighborhoods in a fantastic, wanna-move-there kind of way. My duties with 8Z are to provide weekly, well researched postings for a variety of neighborhoods in Colorado. These posts would be mixed in with market reports and specialty listings provided by the designated Realtor. I also collaborate with the Managing Editor and with neighborhood residents to provide up to date information on big events and changes in their respective neighborhoods.

Ghostwriter
Melissa approached me after a random meet up and flat out asked me if I would ghostwrite a book she had been planning on writing for months. Like so many people in the professional world, Melissa wanted her thoughts published in a format that could be used and archived, but didn’t have the skill, organization, or patience to complete the project. Over a few months I helped organize her thoughts and research into a format which would coincide with numerous other projects she had been working on.

Julie was looking for a writer who could condense a lot of rich, science heavy research down to a presentable format. She was also looking for someone who could do it rather quickly as she found herself crushed against a deadline. I worked with her over a few weeks pouring over tons of research about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. The study we prepared would end up being used to solicit grant money to continue HBOT research and in order for it to become a mainstream form of medical and rehabilitative treatment in the United States.

Unseen Denver is primarily a photo-blog developed by Rick Ramos (Trypnotik) to showcase Denver’s unique brand of street art. In the year and a half since its debut Unseen has expanded into New York City and Austin My assignment was to write about Denver from a viewpoint as unique as the street art which was presented. Typically, I’d address the problems the layman commonly experienced: public health, historic preservation, and development of interesting ideas within the city. I would also occasionally write up profiles and feature work by public artists.

Howdy, I’m David. I’ve also been known as D.T. Pennington around the net and in the publishing world. I am a freelance writer, editor and content manager/marketer living in downtown Denver.
Eat At Dave’s is my company, of which I am the sole proprietor, which works with companies and clients to develop effective copy to serve as the cornerstone of their marketing campaigns.
Educated in the numerous variances and functions of the English language, I have been writing – professionally and recreationally – across dozens of platforms and mediums for a decade. Print, online, fiction, not-so-fiction, marketing, short form, long form – I bring my passion for words to every project I work on.
In October of 2001, I released a collection of short fiction titled Songs About Whiskey. It is available exclusively on the e-reader market.
I am always entertaining ideas for new projects and consulting for new clients. Feel free to contact me via email: dave at dtpennington dot com
Here’s some stuff folks have said about me:
“David is a Contributing Editor on our Denver team and is eagerly ready to take on any topic we throw at him… even if the article’s deadline is the next day. He is not the writer who is boxed into a certain style; his work displays range and can be serious and fact-filled and/or spunky and opinionated. David has also been very accommodating to the constant (and unavoidable) changes needed to get our project off the ground. He has happily accepted assignments without pushback and then taken on reassignments without question. David’s flexibility, positivity and dependability has been an absolute asset to our online venture.”
Brittany Shelling, Managing Editor, 8z.com
“David and I collaborated on several film projects over the years and he’s been absolutely wonderful to work with. For the work we’ve done, he always arrived on time, ready to go and with a great attitude. His writing is clear and concise with personality and humor when needed. I would be happy to have David writing on my teams in the future.”
Matt Colella, Owner/Creative Director, blue13creative
“David is a delight to work with. Very bright, funny, and on time. He writes with flair and originality and can turn anything into a good story. I whole heartedly recommend David and look forward to working with him again.”
Julie Taylor, Independent Writer

“David is a premium find among the editors I’ve encountered. He really cares about helping to cultivate music communities both locally and nationally, rather than getting his kicks from some kind of ironic journalistic prestige. He makes himself constantly available to answer questions (literally – he’s always online and almost always replies immediately), which I can scarcely believe even after over a year of working for him. He’s a smart guy, which is surprisingly rare among editorial staff I have encountered – and he’s not just good with line and copy, but with software. He’s got vision and tenacity, but he’s an agreeable human being.”
