“The Only Constant Is Change”
About three weeks after Hurricane Helene shut down the town and wrecked the region, and we could say that we are “getting back to normal.”
But what does that mean when I took a shower in the parking lot of a bank? (In a trailer, full of showers, in a very campground/ emergency area setup. Turns out, the whole thing was funded by the bank, so good on them!).
As of today, October 23, 2024, the water coming out of every single tap in Asheville is very yellow and reeks of chlorine. There is no update on when we can expect to use this water for anything other than flushing.
So, not quite normal.
Yet, people are striving to get back to something “normal.” Remember the days of COVID-19 when nothing seemed right and we were all making it up as we went along.
When you establish a “normal,” it is only a matter of time before your perspective gets knocked sideways again. So maybe, then, we don’t do the “normal” thing.
Make it up as you go along, every day.
