David Lynch died yesterday. He was a titan in very specific circles. Be nice to the guy in your group who was always introducing you to slightly off-kilter stuff – they’re hurting today.
Lynch was a massive influence on my earlier work, in my earlier years. Back in the days when I thought I would make my living selling novels and writing screenplays that would get picked up and directed by Spike Jonze. (oh, so naive and absurd! What a life).
When I turned my focus to writing copy (one of the few things that still pays, although less lately, and less often) there was still a filter of the weird in every tag I delivered. Lots of rewrite requests from clients who didn’t get what was happening, I lived far, far left of center.
In his honor (I think this is honorable), I mocked up some copy tags that he might have written.
