Spent the weekend in a Postcard Cabin outside of Lake Hartwell. The point is a small, minimal cabin without a ton of frills as a place to “disconnect and unwind.” The company was purchased by Marriot last year for a half billion dollars and already the amenities (and added fees) are rolling in.
For example, for all their claims of being a “place to disconnect,” high-speed internet is now available everywhere in the campsites. The wifi introduced a strange feeling. Before, when devices were useless, you were OK with just sitting around and reading books and doodling. Add the wifi, now you’re all kinds of anxious that you aren’t doing enough with your time.
During the outing I finished Rachel Kushner’s Creation Lake. All the hallmarks of a Kushner book, but the ending fell a little flat. Literally none of the promised buildup was delivered. How about it?

Tomorrow I pick up the keys to the studio I will be hosting a month-long photo studio popup. Alex, who runs Just Draw The Boots (where I’ve been learning to draw for the past few years) has graciously lent me some space for the month to give my business idea a go.
In the end, I would love to find a dedicated, permanent space for a studio that is largely collaborative and focused on the various aspects of the local photography community. Space to shoot, to meet, gallery walls, resources, rentals – the works. I am doing my best to document the process and share all the mistakes.

The end of the month, invoicing day. This is the end for a handful of rather sizeable clients. On one hand, I’m OK with being less of a “monkey with a typewriter” and am looking to push OutWord back in the direction of teaching and consultancy. On the other hand, whoof on that revenue.

Speaking of: My print shop is finally here on my domain. You can buy a print and I’ll be your friend.
